In March, two teams of students from the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship Baltimore Spring Break Urban Program served at MCCS. These students attend local colleges in Baltimore and gave up their spring break vacations to serve in our inner city. SBUP students performed a variety of tasks: shoveling snow, removing ice, organizing our supplies, tutoring students, and helping in other ways. Both teams were full of joy, creativity and love for the Lord. Our students benefit from interacting with young adults who are committed to the Lord, and some of whom themselves come from urban backgrounds. One SBUP student remarked, “This time when I came, students were asking me questions about college. That hadn’t happened before, and I thought it was really cool!” As our students interact with Christian college students, they gain a vision and hope for their academic and spiritual future.

Spiritual Life Week
During the week of March 20-24th, MCCS students were immersed in the knowledge and pirit of the Lord during our annual “Spiritual Life Week” events. SLW is a time when we focus on the Lord and have chapel services every day of the week. We heard from a ariety of speakers who shared their testimonies. Our guest speakers throughout the week were Pastor Michael Booth, Mr. Horeb Peña and his brother, Pastor Joel Peña, and Mr. Scott Williams. All of these men shared powerfully about the ways God remained constant in their lives, and how He was with them and saved them from being overcome by fear and doubt. Our students were encouraged and blessed to hear from these godly men. These men are wonderful fathers. In a community rampant with fatherlessness, our students need to hear from loving, godly fathers who are committed to their families and are committed to the Lord. After each talk, students had the opportunity to espond by receiving prayer from the speakers if they requested it. We are thankful to Mrs. Gwen Martin for organizing and planning this week, in addition to leading an extended time of worship on Wednesday. On Friday, we ended the week with a delicious breakfast meal prepared by staff and student helpers. The students enjoyed the time to talk and fellowship with one another. What a wonderful way to end a joyful week!

My Favorite Verse
Last week, as Ms. Gwen was subbing in the Elementary Classroom, she worked with
Matthew as he wrote a verse he memorized for one of his tests. Afterward, Matthew remarked, “That is one of my favorite verses!” The verse was 1 Corinthians 15:58 “May you be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.”
Many of our students grow up in communities that are unstable and transient. Our students need to know that God can bring peace, stability, and purpose to their lives. We have seen the impact of Christ in Matthew’s life. He has grown tremendously in his love for God and others over the years he has been a student here at Mt. Clare. He frequently asks to pray for his peers and for his teachers. When asked why he likes being a student at Mt. Clare, Matthew responded, “I like my teachers, my friends, and I like learning about God!”
Our school is a spiritual lifeline for this student and his family. Thank you for making this ministry possible for students who would have grown up without a community of Christians to support, encourage and pray for them.
